Leonard King House, Matakana

In 2012 fellow artists and friends Virginia Leonard and Oliver King approached Mike to design a country home on the outskirts of Matakana.
The 2 hectare property terminated in a peninsula of land bordered by a pond to the south and coverted bush and stream to the north .
The resulting linear design flowed between the waterways and was entered centrally via a short boardwalk and cantilevered decks.

The main living spaces create a block between the more private areas, parents at one end, children the other.
The clients being major collectors of fine and applied art was a major driver for the final design. Essentially it became a balancing act between natural light and wall space. Texture and detailing shift the build from a more formal exhibition space to a comfortable and social living environment.

The spaces were featured in NZ Home & Garden.
